Treatment of Data Techniques IB Geography I
2
Purpose of this PPT Use this Power Point to decide how you will treat your data. Remember, there may be multiple ways of treating data, but there’s usually one that is the “best” or “most efficient” option.
3
Choropleth Map A choropleth map is a thematic map in which areas are shaded or patterned in proportion to the measurement of the statistical variable being displayed on the map. Example: The darker the color, the more of something there is.
5
Simple Bar Graph In a simple bar graph, one axis has a numerical value, but the other is just categories. A good way to show relative size or compare different groups based on some variable.
6
Comparative Bar Graph A comparative bar graph is used to compare 2 sets of data on the same axis.
7
Compound Bar Graph Bar graphs that have bars stacked on top of one another. They are usually percentages, adding up to 100%
9
Scatter Graphs These are used to see the relationships between two variables.
10
Pie Chart Circular chart divided into sectors, illustrating numerical proportion. 1 complete pie = 100%.
11
Simple Line Graphs Shows the relationship between two variables, one of them is usually time.
12
