If you want your children to learn more about a topic read quality children’s literature and make connections to online primary sources. Books + Primary Sources = Memorable, Meaningful, Fun Learning

Steps for connecting books to primary sources: 1. Select a topic you will be studying in your classroom 2. Choose a book that aligns with your topic and is appropriate with your grade level 3. Before reading the book as a class discuss its historical setting 4. As you read the book the 2 nd time go through and compile a list of for people, dates, events and mark ones that could have primary source connections (could use post-it notes) 5. Search across the library for diverse primary sources that connect with that book. 6. Connect across the curriculum 7. Develop engaging activities 8. Share your successes 9. Have fun!!
