The Courts The first court to hear a case is the trial court If you lose a case in the trial court, you can appeal to a higher court When you appeal a case the appellate court will: 1. Affirm it- agree with the verdict 2. Reverse it- reject the verdict 3. Remand it- send it back to the lower court

If you appeal a verdict, you are asking the court to review your case An appellate court’s job is to see if the trial court made a mistake The Supreme Court chooses which cases to hear and they don’t choose many
