Parts of A Story Ms. Sawatski 6 th Grade Gifted Reading

Title The title is the name of the story. It usually refers to some piece of the book or an event in story.

Author This is the person who wrote the story/book.

Illustrator If there are pictures in your story the illustrator is the person who created them.

Setting This is the time, place, and environment in which the story takes place. It sets the scenes for the events in the story.

Characters The characters may be people, animals, or things. The story centers on the main characters. There are often supporting character who may not have as large of a role in the story.

Plot The plot is a series of events that happen in the story. The plot usually centers on the problem and how the character solves the problem. The plot usually happens in three parts.

The Three Parts of the Plot 1.Beginning – This is the introduction to the story. You will learn the setting, characters, and problems/conflicts. 2.Middle – This part of the story tells how characters react to the problem/conflict. 3.End- This is also called the climax and is the part of the story where the problem/conflict may be solved. This is where everything comes together.
