PSSA Tips Be sure to read each question carefully before answering it. Read the Directions Make sure you take your time, and go at your own pace.

Some Terms You Should Know Tone- Authors attitude towards the subject or audience. Mood-is the emotional attitude the author takes towards the subject. Syntax-the way in which linguistic elements are put together to form constituents. Synonym-different words with identical or very similar meaning. Antonym- a word of opposite meaning.

Even More Terms… Irony-is an implied discrepancy between what is said and what is meant. Simile-is the comparison of two unlike things using like or as. Metaphor- the comparison of two unlike things, particularly not using like or as. Hyperbole- exaggeration of a overstatement. Allusion-is a brief reference to a person, event, or place, real or fictitious, or to a work of art. Alliteration-is the repetition of initial sounds in neighboring words.

How I would take This test Get a good night’s rest. Eat a healthy breakfast. Take breaks when I feel as if they are needed.

Other Important Tips Bring snacks if you know that you will need a snack. Be sure to dress comfortably. Make sure you read the title, and READ THE DIRECTIONS.
