Proposed Goal Our original plan was to make a jogging device that can do the following: Play music and change tempo of the music depending on the user’s jogging pace. Display useful information on LCD display. Allow user to download songs from PC and select songs to play on the device. Heart monitor extension.

Original Design

Major Issues Resolved Using two 89C55 chips to solve timer interrupt issues. Midi file parser and timing algorithm for sending midi bytes.
5
Unknowns Known Now 2g and 10g accelerometers don’t matter that much in our data extraction routines. Getting data input from keypad and display data on LCD display. Operating system is not needed.
6
Design Changes Two 89C55 chips. One sends midi bytes to the Atmel Dream chip without getting interrupted. The other one interfaces with the accelerometer, keypad, and LCD display. Instead of matching the foot steps with drum beats, it will only match the jogging speed to the music playing speed (tempo).

8
What Now Implement what will be displayed on the LCD display. Decide what functions each button on keypad should do. Implement song selection.
9
Demo Similar to the Affiliates Demo. Circuit is too large to jog with. May use a longer wire and attach the accelerometer on hip. Improvements with keypad and LCD display. Song selection will be included also.
