The financial impact of the Great Depression was devastating on Americans because of the continuous bank runs which caused banks to fail, businesses to close and unemployment to rise. The failure of American banks was a continuous cause of economic turmoil in the early 1930’s. The number of banks failing can be seen in the graph of “Bank Failures in the 1920’s and 1930’s,” this graph shows that 1933 was the year with the greatest number of bank failures, at 4,000 banks. This lead to many businesses failing, which in turn made many loose their jobs.
