What are Animal Needs? Food Shelter Water Air

Getting Oxygen Humans and many animals use lungs to get oxygen from air Fish and other animals use gills to get oxygen from water

Animal Covering Birds have feathers Reptiles (snakes, tortoises, etc.) have scales and dry skin Mammals (dogs, monkeys, bears, etc.) have fur or hair that covers skin Amphibians (newts, frogs, etc.) have smooth, wet skin Fish have scales

Blubber Experiment The shortening acted like blubber The shortening helped keep our hands warmer Blubber helps animals like seals stay warm in cold temperatures

Life Cycles Life cycle- the growing and changing that happens to an animal during it’s life Reproduce- animals have young (babies)

What Are Fossils? Extinct- no longer living on the earth Dinosaur- an animals that lived that on Earth millions of years ago Fossil- what is left from a plant or animal that lived long ago

Fossil Molds We pushed the plastic bug into the clay to make a mold We poured glue in to make a caste. The glue represented mud or sand the filled the imprint and turned into rock.

Metamorphosis The changes a young animal goes through to become an adult Frog metamorphosis: – Egg – Tadpole – Frog
