S UGGESTIONS FOR P LANNING AND I MPLEMENTING A BYOD P ROGRAM

D EVELOP A T EAM It is important to develop a team that will help implement the use of BYOD and WiFi within the school. This team should include many different stakeholders to provide as many perspectives as possible to help grow the program.

C OMMUNICATE WITH S TAKEHOLDERS Connect with the staff, students, parents, and community to announce the beginning of the BYOD program. Use an end-of-year newsletter and the school website to reach as many people as possible. Parents will want to know in advance, so they can purchase devices.

I DENTIFY A G OAL By creating a goal for the BYOD program, there will be a focus for professional development and integration into curriculum around one unifying objective. The administrative team and BYOD committee can frame all plans within this goal and it will help keep all stakeholders focused.

I DENTIFY A G OAL EXAMPLES To use classroom technology to engage students in asking questions and choosing tools to facilitate real world problem solving. To effectively integrate technology into curricular objectives. To transform learning in the classroom through the use of technology. Encourage innovation.

S YNTHESIZE A P LAN When synthesizing a plan for BYOD at the school, consider planning a “BYOD Night” or “Tech Night” into the calendar, or integrate these ideas into an existing function at the school that involves parents and community members. The plan should be tailored to the BYOD goal and the school’s vision.

M EASURE S UCCESS This step should actually be worked into the synthesis of the plan, but it’s too important to not have its own section. There must be a way to measure success and progress within the plan. What does success mean for your program?

I NTEGRATE INTO C URRICULUM The final piece of a successful BYOD launch is to work with the staff and digital leaders at the school to integrate BYOD into existing curriculum and create new curriculum around the program. Creating a climate where taking chances and innovating with technology is celebrated will go a long way in building buy-in and support for the program.
