Aim: to understand and undertake Archaeological processes to draw conclusions about Ancient Egypt. Starter: What are the 3 Assessment objectives? Can you apply them to this image?
2
AO1: AO1: Factual details/ Historical knowledge of the sources. AO2: AO2: Understanding of sources- put in a wider context/ importance AO3: AO3: Interpretation and evaluation of sources inc. reliability.
3
AO1: Rocks AO1: Sand AO2: Much of the geography of Egypt is made up of desert, made up of Rocks and sand. AO3: We THINK there was rocks and sand in 5500 BC
4
Ancient Egypt pre-dates lengthy amounts of text. As a result there are no real ‘Histories’ of Ancient Egypt: No Livys or Arrians! This does help however as there is no one adding their own interpretation.
5
Because there aren’t any grand histories, Egyptologists have to rely heavily on the Archaeological evidence*. Using the 3 AO’s we can do something very similar. And as always… do we really know?
6
Look at the archaeological evidence you have been given. Taking an AO each, make notes/ questions on your chart for your source. A/A* targets look at AO3. If you get stuck, use the crib sheet.

What have you been able to learn from your object? What questions do you still have? What was the hardest part of the task?
10
Looking at one object in isolation is HARD! Time to share with others As a four… (see next slide) Swap notes on your 2 objects Be quick!

Time to make links… Now, looking at all the objects as a whole set… Can you find any artefacts that LINK to your artefact? HOW Make notes in the final column as to HOW it validates your source.
13
(Write in your books) Why is finding out about Ancient Egypt difficult? What limitations does the archaeological evidence have? What will help us understand these artefacts more? (that we can realistically do)
