Primary Sources -A primary source is a document or physical object (artefact) which was written or created during the time under study. For example: 1. ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS Diaries, speeches, manuscripts, letters, interviews, news film footage, autobiographies, official records (excerpts or translations acceptable): 2. CREATIVE WORKS: Poetry, drama, novels, music, art 3. RELICS OR ARTIFACTS: Pottery, furniture, clothing, buildings

Secondary Sources -A secondary source interprets and analyzes primary sources. These sources are one or more steps removed from the event. Examples: 1. PUBLICATIONS: Textbooks, magazine articles, histories, criticisms, commentaries, encyclopedias

Sources of History: Your Opinion What type of source do you think would be most reliable when studying history? Your Task: Write a short, two paragraph response outlining what you think are the benefits and detriments of each type of source.
