The Invention of Uno After Barbershop Owner Merle Robbins had an argument with his son about Crazy 8’s in 1971, he had an idea. An idea that would someday become today’s hit game, Uno.

The Purpose of Uno The purpose of Uno is to have a game similar to crazy 8’s.

Getting the idea out Robbins showed the new game to his family. Him and his family played it so much, that they decided to get it printed. His family put together $8,000 to have 5,000 games made.

Selling Uno At first he sold the game at his barbershop. He had a couple friendly businesses that he knew that sold some too! He finally sold the rights to a funeral parlor in Joliet, Illinois. It costed $50,000 plus royalties of 10 cents per game. When the funeral parlor got Uno, they formed International Games Inc. to sell Uno. Sales went through the roof! In 1992, International Games Inc. merged with what is now known today as the Mattel Family ©.

Uno Over Time Uno has changed from 1971 Merle Robbins regular card game to today’s Mattel Family Uno Attack. Anology: Uno started as a plain piece of paper, but over time, other companies have wrote on it making it more awesome and complex. Sometimes with blank papers, it is better blank, but in this case, it is better drawn on.

3 Facts about Uno It has become more complex It has become very peculiar compared to 1971 It became very fun!
