So, what’s next for the RFQ cold model? Cold model End flanges and inserts for the RFQ cold model are currently being manufactured and the tuners will follow shortly. Brazing, bead pull measurements and CMM work then need to be done. Design work on the full length RFQ will begin soon. Full length RFQ

Emittance Scanner Development Following the success of our MkI Emittance Scanner we have developed the MkIIb. New features include: improved stability; a larger grid area (41x41 Ø50 micron holes) cooling; fully kinematic camera positioning and a motor driven grid arm. Assembly will commence next week. Data collected from the MkIIb will enable the LEBT design to be finalised. Ion source development tank Fast CCD camera H- beam Exploded view of grid head

Profile Measurement Tank RFQ Support Bench Development The support bench that will contain the rail system upon which the entire FETS rests has been designed. A low, wide, open design can accommodate a large range of equipment sizes and allows equipment to be mounted between the legs of the stands. 800mm 1650mm

Profile Measurement Development Our latest Engineering challenge is to design a profile measurement tank to occupy the gap between the ion source and the first solenoid. The tank must contain 4 linear/rotary stage pairs and mirrors, a differential pumping tank containing a detector, magnets and a faraday cup – all within 200mm and all to be adequately pumped!
