El Nino conditions have strengthened in the past few months. A strong El Nino event is probable late this Fall and Winter, increasing the chances for above normal precipitation across West Central Texas. For the Oct 24 – Oct 30 period… Temperatures - Odds favor above normal temperatures across Texas. Precipitation –There are slightly enhanced chances for above normal precipitation across West Central Texas.

Drought Impacts – October Drought conditions have quickly developed since July and have worsened during the past 30 days. Stressed forage and hay crops, and deteriorating condition of rangeland and pastures. Increased risk of grass and brush fires. Long-term effects are still evident in surface (reservoir) water supplies. Supplemental feeding of livestock across some areas.
