1. FOIL A character in literature who has qualities that are in sharp contrast to another character, thus emphasizing the traits of each.

2. BLANK VERSE Text that is written in measured lines that do not rhyme.

3. PUN A play on words that have similar sounds but more than one possible spelling or meaning. For example, Romeo says Mercutio has “nimble soles,” but he himself has “a sole of lead”.

4. METER Length of a line of verse measured by counting the stresses
