2
Aim To find out and compare the effect of Mentos with Coke, Coke zero and Sprite.
3
Hypothesis The Mentos will cause an explosion due to the reaction of the ingredients. Coke will have the least amount left because of the loss during the explosion.
4
Variables Table Controlled variables
Same amount liquid of Coke, zero Coke and Sprite (500ml) Same temperature of liquid Same amount of Mentos ( 3 Mentos each) Independent variable Type of soft drinks put with Mentos. Dependent variable The loss of the liquid caused by the explosion with mentos and soft drinks.
5
Experiment Step 1: Prepare bottles of soft drinks. Coke, Zero Coke and Sprite (500 ml).
6
Step 2: Prepare 3 mentos.
7
Step 3: put the 3 mentos into the soft drink and measure the loss of liquid.
Coke
8
Step 4: repeat the steps for zero Coke and Sprite.
9
Step 4: repeat the steps for zero Coke and Sprite.
10
Step 5: Compare and measure the amount of each soft drinks left.
11
Results Soft Drinks Coke Sprite Zero Coke Amount Left 244 ml 382 ml
12
Conclusion The amount of coke left is the less, which proves our hypothesis is correct. This is because of the carbon dioxide pumped in when bottle the drink in factory. Mentos candy are covered with tiny dimples, when dropping mentos, the surface tension of the liquid breaks and allows bubbles to form with greater amount of Carbon dioxide. Coke has the greater amount of CO2, when more bubbles are produced from coke, the bubbles (coke) was split out and cause loosing of liquid.
