Expectations Arrive on time Homework on time – (And I will mark promptly) Note taking – If you use a laptop in the exam, then it is quite OK to use your iPad or a laptop to take notes – If you handwrite in an exam, then you should practise writing. I will expect all your homework to be handwritten, and it may be better to handwrite notes

3. Year 1 (AS) Theme 1 Marketing and People - Miss Cheetham – Marketing (a bit from Mr Monks) – People Theme 2 Managing Business Operations - Mr Monks – Finance – Operations AS exam. Does not count towards A level grade – 2 papers each with 3 sets of questions – A, B and C. The first 2 sets of questions, A and B are based on a short case study. Question C is a 20 mark essay – Questions A and B on Paper 1 test Theme 1, and for Paper 2 test Theme 2. The C question on each paper draw on both Themes

4. Specification and Resources You will have an e-textbook – You will have access to this for 2 years Other resources will be on Learning Spaces – Specification – Link to other resources, eg tutor2u is really excellent – Some PowerPoints; but the book will have full material

7. Quantitative skills Quantitative skills sounds frightening, but it really only means fairly simple calculations The more complex skill is working out what calculations to perform Percentages: – If 116 out of 165 staff in a school are aged 30 or below, what percentage of staff are aged above 30? – Write the formula for percentage change – A further 15 staff join, two thirds of whom are aged below 30. What is the percentage increase in the number of staff older than 30?

8. Exam structure Two exams, Paper 1 mostly on Theme 1 and Paper 2 mostly on Theme 2 Both are 1 hour 30 minutes and worth 80 marks. Same structure for both. You answer: – Section A, worth 30 marks and based on a short case study (less than 1 page). Questions drawn from the theme and worth 2, 2, 4, 4, 8, 10 – Section B is exactly the same structure – Section C is again based on a case study, but there is a single question worth 20 marks. This will draw on knowledge of both themes

9. How to answer the questions Skills required are: – Knowledge, eg definitions – Application, which means you write about the case study – Analysis, which means explaining the impact of a particular factor, ie chains of argument (A means B, therefore C will happen, leading to D) – Evaluation. This comes in 2 parts: How important is the particular factor you have analysed, and Coming to a justified conclusion

10. Different Questions 8 mark questions: – 2 sets of arguments, with 1 mark each for knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation – This means generally 2 short arguments with a definition and using material from the case study, each argument evaluated – is it important or not and why? Plus a short conclusion 10 mark question: – The same except a total of 3 for analysis and 3 for evaluation
