4. Common Core Math  Focuses on alternate strategies to solve math problems, not just one method.  Many of these strategies are very different from the way we learned math.  It allows students to eventually view math in a deeper way.  EOG will have open-ended math problems for written responses as well as few, if any, multiple choice responses.

5. Common Core ELA  Grammar is BACK! (FINALLY)  Writing is a huge emphasis so we will write a great deal this year in all areas.  Speaking and Listening Goals in Common Core  EOG will also have free responses for answers.  Guided Reading is continuing in a 2 hour ELA block.  AR (Importance of “Practicing” reading, Weekly Summary Logs, and Incentives)
