Students Per. Grade Level Third GradeFourth Grade My fourth grade numbers are much lower. I currently service a total of four students in the fourth grade. Two of my four are girls. Two of my four are boys. Currently I service fifth teen third grade special education students. Two of the fifth teen are girls. Thirteen of the fifth teen are boys.

Gender According to Merriam-Webster (2015), gender is the state of being male or female. According to the chart my classrooms gender consist of both males and females. The majority of my students are boys as indicated in the chart there’s a total of 15 male students who receive special education services in our school. The highest number of students can be found in the third grade. The presents of females within my classroom is very limited. As pointed out on the chart there are only four girls receiving special education services within our school in grade 3 rd and 4 th. HOME LANGUAGE Home language is the native language used most often at home by the student and his/her family. This year all of my students speck English as their first language. English is also the language used within the classroom.

SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS Capital income for residents in Marshall County is around $17, 978. State of Mississippi capital income is around $20, 618. The poverty line for a family of four in 2013 sits around $23,834 United States Census Bureau. (n.d.).

Academic challenges Limited time to research lessons related to culturally and linguistically diverse students. Students struggles with understanding content due to cultural barriers.

FUNDS OF KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCES CULTURAL MODELING IS A WAY OF DESIGNING INSTRUCTION TO MAKE EXPLICIT CONNECTIONS BETWEEN CONTENT AND LITERACY GOALS AND THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES STUDENTS SHARE WITH FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND PEERS (RISKO,2007). Although students arrive with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds teachers can use this information to their advantage. Assist students with building a connection from the learning to past experiences. This connection will assist them with understanding, and grasping the gist of the standards being taught.

FUNDS OF KNOWLEDGE FAMILY CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE INSTRUCTION REQUIRES EDUCATORS TO HAVE A BROAD AND IN- DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF STUDENTS' CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC HISTORIES AND OUT- OF SCHOOL EXPERIENCES (RISKO,2007). Teachers taking the time to perform assessments to gain knowledge of students out of school experiences, will provide them with a wealth of information. This information can be gained from home visits, or student and parent interviews. The knowledge gained will be helpful in planning lessons that connect to the students cultural and linguistic histories.

Strengths and Challenges Related to Literacy Expectations Strengths With College and Career Readiness standards students will see consistency from school to school. Stands increase rigor which challenges students. Shared standards allow teachers to collaborate and plan jointly. Challenges The College and Career Readiness standards are difficult to learn and teach. The requirements can be vague and broad. Requires younger students to learn at a quicker pace.
