2 Project Introduction/ Course Connections  Today's American material lifestyle; as discussed in many of the classrooms around OWU, including GEOG 360 and in Edward Humes novel, Garbology, is a throw away society with little regard for “things”. Items are made intentionally cheap and often they are designed to be obsolete almost immediately after market release (ex. cell phones and other technologies). This contributes to the vast accumulation of “stuff” in the American household and often this “stuff” is simply discarded with zero concern for its final destination; our overflowing landfills. Often a stop along the way to the landfill is the college campus. Where hand-me-down furniture goes for its final run and out dated TV's breathe their last breath of life.

3 General Project Overview  This years triumphant renewal May Move Out Project is the return of Ohio Wesleyan’s attempt at an organized donation drop off and waste reduction effort on campus that will take place during the spring move out (NEXT WEEK!!!). The overall goals of this project are: ◦ Reduce the amount of solid waste students produce through recycling and donating unwanted, lightly used items ◦ Enforce the reuse of unwanted things ◦ Increase the awareness on the importance of donating unwanted items ◦ Support OWU and the surrounding Delaware Community by donating such items and creating jobs ◦ Continue to implement and improve this program each spring

4 Project Implementation  General Goal: Pack it in, Pack it up, Pack it out – home vs dumpster vs Pod  Empty your room in 3 easy steps! ◦ 1. Pack it in, pack it out. Take everything with you. ◦ 2. Put it in the PODS. Donate unwanted stuff and help others. ◦ 3. Push it to the landfill. If it can’t be recycled or donated, make sure trash goes in the dumpster (not the trash closet, kitchen, hallway, or other common area, please.)  Partnered with local Delaware Goodwill ◦ Items in the PODS will be donated to Goodwill, helping to create jobs for people in the community.  When? ◦ Wed May 6 th noon-8pm, Thurs May 7 th noon- 8pm, Friday May 8 th 9am-1pm, and Monday May 11 th 9am-1pm
