Attendance Policies School hours are 7:30 – 2:30 Early morning drop off is 6:45am (students must report to the gym) Please send a written note in order for your child’s absence to be excused Excessive tardies will result in absences and detention after school

Lunch 10:20-10:45 Feel free to join your child for lunch any time! Please sign in at the office and wait on the benches. We will meet you at the benches. We eat in the BIG cafeteria. Please do NOT bring outside food.

Snack Due to an early lunch, we will have a morning snack. Please send a healthy snack. No cookies, chips, candy, etc. Children may also bring a bottle of water with a screw-on cap.

Makeup Work If your child is absent he/she will be required to make-up work. I will send home the make-up work the day the child returns to be completed within 3 days.

Newsletters I will send home a newsletter every Monday in “Take Home Folders”. The newsletter will contain skills covered for that week, important events and dates, and any other important information you’ll need to know about our class. Please read the newsletter every Monday so that you can stay aware of all that is happening in the class and in the school. I will also post the newsletter on our class website each week.

Agendas and Spelling Words Agendas will come home nightly. The children will write all homework assignments in the agenda. Behavior information will also be in agenda. It should be signed nightly. Every Monday, there is a paper that has the vocabulary and spelling words, reading log, and the behavior for each day. Spelling Words will be written in the agenda on Friday, as well as in the newsletter and on the class web page. We will have a spelling test every Thursday!

Take Home Folders Comes home on Mondays only. Graded papers are sent home in this folder. Take home folders needs to be at school every Tuesday.

Homework Folders Goes home nightly Vocabulary words are found the agenda every Monday. Please make sure to study your words each night. Take home reader will also be found in here on Monday. Return this book to school the following day. Second Grade will not have a nightly word list. Instead, your child will be reading books nightly.

Class Rules Contract ~ Rules Poster Consequences and Rewards ~Treasure Chest, Pushpins, Team Tickets, etc. Please refer to the school wide discipline policy in the agenda

Pushpins/Stickers: Pushpins are our classroom incentive. I like to use positive reinforcement first! When your child is caught “on task,” doing something kind for others, following directions, etc... They can receive a push pin. They earn surprises when they reach the push pin goals. Please encourage your child to work hard to receive push pins.

Birthdays You are welcome to send in treats (cupcakes, drinks, etc.) for your child’s birthday. However, don’t feel obligated to do this. Please send me a note the day before if you plan to come in with treats. This allows me to make changes to snack schedule.

Medication oIf your child needs to take medication during the school day, it has to be signed in to the school nurse. oShe will administer the medication per your instructions. oI (the classroom teacher) cannot give your child anything!

Visitors For the protection of your child, all visitors must report to the office, identify themselves, and give reason for visit. Sign in and fill out a visitor’s pass and place on the front of your shirt or jacket where it can be easily seen. No visitors will be allowed down the hallways between 7:30-2:45 without permission from office personnel.

Student Handbook Please thoroughly read the Student Handbook (parent and student). It contains very important information about our school policies and procedures such as; ** Dismissal procedures and changes ** Severe weather procedures ** Guidance services ** Attendance/tardy policy and consequences ** Transportation policy/bus suspensions ** Dress code ** Fire/Tornado Drills

Report Card Schedule 1 st 9 weeks: Oct. 18, 2011 2 nd 9 weeks: Jan. 10, 2012 3 rd 9 weeks: Mar. 27, 2012 4 th 9 weeks: May 25, 2012

Early Dismissals There are 4 new early dismissals days this year for teacher collaboration on top of the existing 3 days. Please plan for these days and let me know in writing ahead of time if your child’s transportation plan will change on these days. – Thursday, September 15th – Wednesday, October 19th – Tuesday, November 15th – Thursday, March 8th

Parent Conferences Our fall parent/teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, October 20. Our spring parent/teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, March 29. I will contact you a couple weeks ahead of time to set up an appointment time.

Science Lab Coats We will be doing a lot of experiments in science with our science kits and they which tend to get a little messy. Please send in a large white T-shirt that can be decorated and used as a science lab shirt. The shirts do not need to be brand new. Parent t-shirts work really well. We will be decorating them with markers, so please make sure it is a shirt that you no longer need. Please send these in by Thursday, August 25th ! Thanks!

I will send home Scholastic book orders every month. This is no obligation what so ever. It is just a good, cheap way to provide your child with quality books at home. If you wish to place an order it is payable only with check and must be made out to Scholastic. Scholastic Book Orders

Mystery Readers If you would like to be a mystery reader this year please let me know. Students LOVE having their family, friends, and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class.
