Plot (Definition) Organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. Series of incidents that related to one another. Organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. Series of incidents that related to one another.

1. Exposition Occurs at the beginning of a story. Introduction to setting, main characters, conflict (main problem).

2. Rising Action Development of conflict; problem intensifies. Building of tension and suspense. Development of conflict; problem intensifies. Building of tension and suspense.

3. Climax Turning point in the story. Highest point of tension. Usually, main character comes face-to-face with conflict; main character usually undergoes a change.

5. Resolution Conflict is resolved in some way. Story comes to an end.
