Lab Safety Make time for this!!!

General Rules Act responsibly Follow all instructions Do not touch anything without permission Do not eat/drink/chew anything while in the lab Be prepared No horseplay Dispose of waste appropriately Clean up behind yourself Handle all living organisms in a humane manner

Clothing Wear goggles when chemicals, glassware or heat are used Pull back long hair No dangly jewelry No loose baggy clothing Lab aprons when dissecting No open toed shoes when dissecting

Accidents Report them to the teacher! Know where emergency stations are: shower, fire blanket, eye wash, fire extinguisher, etc. Do not touch mercury or any toxic chemical Always Add Acid!!! Never remove chemicals from laboratory Do not ingest or smell any chemicals

Handling equipment Never handle broken glass Grasp the plug when unplugging equipment (not the cord) Examine glassware before using for cracks or chips If you do not understand how to use equipment, ask instructor Report damaged equipment

Lab Safety Contract Make sure you read the contract Fill out the Agreement section Sign and date Have a parent or guardian read, sign and date Return before Friday for a 100 grade! (Monday = 90, Tuesday = 80) No labs until all students have turned in lab safety contracts!!
