1859-Catholic Charities Hawaii first started as the Catholic Women’s Aid Society 1921-the society was changed into the Columbus Welfare Association to assist the Catholic community 1941-Bishop James J. Sweeny reorganizes the CWA into Catholic Charities 1947-Catholic Charities is officially chartered and named Catholic Social services (CSS) to reflect the specialized social service casework of the agency History

Counseling (O‘AHU and HAWAI‘I) We offer individual, marital, and family counseling. Domestic Violence Services (O‘AHU) Our Therapeutic Counseling helps women and men heal from and prevent further trauma of domestic violence. Counseling

Housing Placement and Homelessness Prevention Program When funding is available, we provide emergency financial assistance for housing needs. Housing

Early Identification Program (EID) Provides referral services to connect parents of newborn infants with services and information on healthy child development Services are free, voluntary, and confidential Funded by the Hawaii State Department of Health Programs

Mary Jane Home (O‘AHU) The Mary Jane Home offers a unique housing and educational opportunity to pregnant women in need of a safe, affordable place to live during their pregnancy. The program also offers counseling, child- birth and parenting education, life skills training, and support services. Mary Jane Home (O‘AHU)

Eligibility Criteria: 18+ years of age, pregnant and in need of services Services for pregnant women only; unable to accommodate older children or partners Desire to participate in education, counseling and improve their situation Willingness to follow home rules and requirements Ability to work cooperatively with others Mary Jane Home Criteria

Fees based on 1/3 of a resident’s monthly income $50 deposit No one will be turned away due to an inability to pay Cost

Emergency shelter mothers are referred to IHS or the Next Step program Concurrent drug use (within the past 90 days) mothers are referred to the Women’s way residential and the PATH program run by the Salvation Army Helpful Information
