Aims To look at key techniques that help to persuade people to do something. Listen to persuasive speakers. Prepare at least five sentences using key techniques that will persuade your class mates to either: – support your football/ruby team, or – like your favourite singer, or – realise that the new school will be the best in Newport.

Identify the following I have a dream. The new school will bring change. It will be great. It will be brilliant. It is a time for hope. It is a time to dream. Are we hoping for the best? Is the pope Catholic? The whole universe is watching! He can run faster than the speed of light! It was the best of times. It will be the greatest school in Newport.

A fact that is stated simply. Often a simple sentence. A word or phrase is repeated more than once There is only one possible answer to what is asked so there is often no need for a reply A lot of exaggeration is used. Task in Pairs Write a short speech persuading your classmates to either: – support your football/rugby team; or – believe your favourite singer is the best; or – that the new school will be the best in Newport.

Help… Wr ite at least five sentences. Start with a statement. Write a sentence with at least two superlatives in it. Repeat a phrase. End with a rhetorical question.
