Today in Art Masterpiece, I learned about _____________________ _________________________________________________________ My favorite part was _______________________________________ _________________________________________________________ M.C. Escher (1898 – 1973) Today in Art Masterpiece, we studied M.C. Escher. Escher was born in 1898 in Holland. He discovered his interest in graphic art while in college. Escher’s work ridged the scientific world with artistic imagination. Escher traveled through Italy an all of Europe. While on a visit to Spain, Escher was intrigued with the floor tiles. He became interested in Mosaic, pattern and repetition and included this in his artwork. Using a mathematical art technique in his work led to tessellations. Escher was the first to put a recognizable image into tessellations. One theme Escher used was metamorphosis. He liked to change an object from one thing to a completely different object. Escher’s art consisted of geometric shapes, too. Escher died in 1973.
