We are interested in environmental issues and we want to make our school more eco-friendly We’ll be coming round and checking how eco-friendly the school is at the moment We’ll set targets to become more eco-friendly and we’ll need your help Please check out our new noticeboard for information, news and competitions

3. Hello I’m Mrs Blacklock and I’m the Eco-committee Chair. I run the meetings Hello I’m Mr Flavin and I’m the Head Co- ordinator. I take notes and help the Chair Hello we are Eddie, Tash and Eleanor and we are the Communications Team. We make sure that everyone knows what is going on with the Eco-committee Hello we’re Emily, Lilly, Zak, Lily, Finton, Lilly, Jacob and Henry and we’re Project Partners. We help with ideas for projects and activities that happen in school

4. ENERGY In Lympsham School we make sure that all lights are switched off when not in use. We do not leave equipment on standby as this will waste energy We have recently had LED lighting installed at the school. This will help to reduce our electricity bills.

5. WATER We have regular drinking water in school and have water harvesters to collect rainwater for watering the plants Lympsham Supported and bought a water harvester for a school in Africa

6. Biodiversity Lympsham has a bug hotel and a wormery, this encourages lots of different species into the school grounds. To provide food and water for birds To provide nesting boxes to encourage new birds into the environment

7. School Grounds We have installed a greenhouse to grow vegetables and plants We have some raised beds to grow vegetables as well

8. Healthy Living Children are encouraged to choose healthily when making choices for lunchtimes and snacks Lots of after schools clubs are offered to children to help with physical wellbeing of pupils

9. Transport We have regular walk to school weeks encouraging children to walk or cycle to school instead of using cars which releases bad gases into the air. We have a bicycle shelter here at Lympsham to encourage children to cycle or scooter to school.

10. Litter Lympsham First School is a litter free site. We have litter bins all around school to encourage children to be tidy and not throw litter down.

11. Waste Lympsham is working on the 3 R’s Reduce – Reuse and Recycle We have bins in all classrooms for paper, cardboard and food waste. Food waste is also collected at lunchtime and disposed of.

12. Global Citizenship Here at Lympsham we have a partner school in Cambodia whereby we have raised funds to help them build a school, and help for other things that they cannot access as easily as us.

13. How can we improve To have water saving devices fitted on taps To be aware of and value our school grounds and how it affects wildlife and to encourage biodiversity within them. To build stronger relationships with global partners. To come up with ideas to improve energy here at Lympsham and become a more sustainable school.

15. We have already achieved our Bronze Award. We would now like to achieve the Silver Award We can work on getting our silver award
