I need to know when to use the internet. I need to know how to search the internet. I need to know how to use the facts and pictures from the internet. I need to know the rules I must follow when using the internet.

When Ms. Hopkins gives you report assignments to: ◦Write about a person (ex: Martin Luther King) ◦Write about a place (ex: Egypt) ◦Write about a group of people (ex: Powhatan Indians) When Ms. Hopkins wants you to find pictures of things we are learning about: ◦Examples: Pyramids, Longhouses, Lanterns, etc.

Many websites are great to find information about a topic: Type your topic in the search box (ex: Powhatan Indians) Read through the information. Highlight important facts or pictures that teach you something.

Put facts into your own words: ◦Internet says: “The Powhatan Indians once lived in what is now Virginia.” ◦You write: Virginia was once the home of the Powhatan Indians.

Write the facts word for word and include the resource website: ◦Internet says: “The Powhatan Indians once lived in what is now Virginia.” ◦You write: “The Powhatan Indians once lived in what is now Virginia” (www.powhatanindians.com).

When I like a picture, I include it in my paper by: ◦Right click on the picture ◦Copy it and paste it into your paper ◦Copy and paste the internet web address below the picture in your paper

Example: The Powhatan Indians lived in a wigwam or longhouse, made out of wood and bark. http://niahd.wm.edu/attachments/997.jpg

I can use the Internet to: ◦Help me find information. ◦Look for pictures. ◦Include information in my paper if I put in my own words or cite the resource. I cannot use the Internet to: ◦Copy the article and say it is my paper ◦Read the information and say I knew it all ◦Use the pictures and not say where they came from.

At the end of your paper, include a Resource Page that has: ◦Website address ◦Date you found the information ◦Author of website (if available)
