The Aborigines came to Australia from Asia 30,000 years ago.

They lived in small groups. The community had strong feelings against quarrels. Duels were fought to end arguments.

Aboriginal men hunted. The women gathered berries and fruit. They also dug yams and roots. As the animals migrated so did the Aborigines..

The men covered themselves in mud for camouflage. They used boomerangs, clubs, and stones to kill kangaroos, lizards, and snakes.

Aboriginal people have strong spiritual beliefs. They believe that their ancestors rose from below the earth to form parts of nature including animals, water, and sky. This is called Dream Time.

Aborigines believe that you should never walk on, climb on, or disturb the Three Sisters.

Ancestor spirits were invited to a feast. They were distracted along the way by beautiful sleeping lizard women. They didn’t make it to the feast. The angry hosts sang evil into the mud sculptures that came to life as a dingo. A great battle took place and the two leaders were killed. Earth rose up in grief at the blood shed becoming Ulhuru. If you take the rocks you’ll be cursed

Music and art are shared through story telling. The didgeridoo is a naturally hollowed out (by ants) wooden tube that is used to make music.

In the 1880’s Great Britain settled Australia. The British brought disease, killing thousands of Aborigines. Their land was taken for towns and ranching. They had to fight for their Civil Rights and are still fighting today.
