1 THE HUPA INDIAN TRIBE By: A’mya Castaneda

2 They made the men’s house out of rocks and wood. It is where the men slept, worked and socialized.

3 The women’s house is made out of wood. Women and children slept there.

4 The Hupa Indians lived in the Northern Coastal Region of California.

5 They ate salmon, seeds, deer, elk, plants, bushes, and fish. They hunted deer, elk, rabbits, buffalo, and fish.

6 They made and built their homes, fires, blankets, clothes, baskets, baby baskets, potteries, arrows, and tools to cook and kill animals.

7 They made their clothes out of deerskin, rabbits, buffalo, and elk.

8 They were known to trade with other tribes. They celebrated three dances each year: the spring dance, the white deerskin dance and the jumping dance.

9 The language of the Hupa is familiar to those who know the Athabascan language.
