4 The Pancreas The pancreas is a major organ located behind the stomach. It is part of the endocrine system and the digestive system.

5 Diagnosis Diagnosis: Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors We came to this conclusion because we knew that there was abnormalities within the digestive system, as well as abnormal levels of glucose and bilirubin in the blood. After ruling out liver malfunction, we requested CAT scans and discovered tumors and inflammation of the pancreas.

7 Cause of PNT There is no specific cause for pancreatic cancer. Most likely caused by ●Genetic predisposition ●Unhealthy diet and lifestyle

8 Treatment Process Whipple Procedure ❏ Remove head of pancreas ❏ Remove right tumor and large portion of middle tumor Reconstruction Phase ❏ Intestine, bile duct and remaining portion of the pancreas are reconnected Complications ❏ Infections ❏ Bleeding ❏ Trouble with the stomach emptying itself after meals

9 Post-Surgery Therapy Gemcitabine Chemotherapy ❏ Prevent further growth ❏ Sustain middle tumor Side Effects ❏ Flu-like symptoms ❏ Fever (within 6-12 hours of first dose) ❏ Nausea (mild) ❏ Low blood counts

10 Prognosis ❏ Risk for diabetes development ❏ Treatment through medication ❏ Five-year survival rate ❏ Possible that some cancer cells have metastasized ❏ Enrollment in AA & Therapy
