2. IRP Background 1996 IRP was guided by Metropolitan’s Mission Statement of: 1.Ensuring Reliability 2.Ensuring Affordability 3.Ensuring Water Quality 4.Maintaining Diversity 5.Ensuring Flexibility 6.Acknowledging Environmental and Institutional Constraints.

3. 1996 IRP created a water resource development strategy known as the “Preferred Resource Mix” Targets for each of the following resources were established through the year 2020: 1.Conservation 2.Local Resources - Water Recycling, Groundwater Recovery and Desalination 3.Colorado River Supplies and Transfers 4.State Water Project Improvement 5.In-Region Surface Reservoir Storage 6.In-Region Groundwater Storage

4. 2004 IRP update fulfilled three objectives: 1.Review the goals and achievements of the 1996 IRP 2.Identify the changed conditions for water resource development 3.Update resource development targets through 2025 Addition of 10 percent planning buffer
