21-05-0534-00-0000 IEEE 802.21 MEDIA INDEPENDENT HANDOVER DCN: 21-05-0534-00-0000 Title: Amendment-for-Link_Handover_Complete.Indication- primitive Date Submitted: February, 9, 2006 Presented at IEEE 802.21 session #13 in Denver Authors or Source(s): Shu Guiming,Zhong hui Abstract: Now we gave a amendment about Link_Handover_ Complete.Indication and MIH_Switch.response primitive by adding several parameters indicating link layer switch/handover complete result,so that upper layer can use this information and make decision for next action.

21-05-0534-00-0000 Background According to proposal 21-05-0427-01-0000-MIH-Link-events and current P802-21-D00-05 draft, Link_Handover_Imminent.Indication informs upper layer that a link layer handover/switching decision has been made and its execution is imminent and Link_Handover_Complete.Indication informs upper layer that a link layer handover/switch execution has just been completed. Link layer handover/switching is a part of existing native link behaviors defined by many media types (e.g., cellular, 802.16). Link layer handover/switching decision is made and executed autonomously. Once a handover/switch begin, the complete result will be successful or unsuccessful. The upper layer need to know such different result as successful or unsuccessful and make different decision for next action.

21-05-0534-00-0000 Proposal[1] Now we have a proposal for adding two integer parameter “ResultCode” indicating the handover/switch complete result and “HandoverFailCode” indicating the unsuccessful reason in Link_Handover_ Complete.Indication primitives. By these parameter MIH layer can know whether the link layer handover/switch successful or not and response these handover result information to upper layer.

21-05-0534-00-0000 Proposal[2] By adding a boolean parameter “HandoverCompleteResult” and an integer parameter “HandoverFailCode” in Link_ Handover_ Complete.Indication primitives, MIH layer can know whether the link layer handover/switch successful or not and the unsuccessful reason.. In order to transfer aforementioned handover/switch result information to upper layer,we have another proposal about adding an integer parameter “HandoverFailCode” indicating the unsuccessful reason in MIH_Switch. response primitive,so that the upper layer can use this information making decision for next action.

21-05-0534-00-0000 New parameter defined in MIH_Switch.response primitive 7.4.7.2.2 Semantics of the service primitive The parameters of the primitive are as follows: MIH_Switch.response ( SourceIdentifier, DestinationIdentifier, ResultCode HandoverFailCode) NameTypeValid Range Description Source IdentifierIdentifierAny valid individual or group identifier The identifier of entity where the request is initiated. This field may be optionally left empty if the command is local. Destination IdentifierIdentifierMIH_LOCAL, MIH_REMOTE The destination identifier of request or response. This is the identifier of local or peer MIH Function. ResultCodeSuccess; Failure; Rejected Result of trying to switch the link HandoverFailCodeInteger0-255Code for unsuccessful reason 0: Time out. 1:absence of resource 3 : Signal power too lower. 2-255: TBD
