Interesting Facts As plants increased their presence in the oceans, it was only a matter of time before they started straying onto land, most likely in the intertidal zone. It lasted 47 million years. The Ordovician is best known for the presence of its diverse marine invertebrates, including graptolites, trilobites, brachiopods, and the conodonts (early vertebrates).graptolites trilobitesbrachiopods
