System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) TOBY WILSON
2
Stages of the Life Cycle 1. Analysis 2. Design 3. Implementation 4. Testing 5. Evaluation
3
Analysis This is the area here the problem is identified The team in this section do the following tasks: Identify the problem Discuss with the customer the needs of the end user Priorities tasks based on the customer’s needs
4
Design This is where the design of the solution is created, so that the programmers know how to develop the end solution and what the end solution needs to look like This includes the following sections: User Interface Design Algorithms Database Design
5
Implementation This is where the program is being created, based on the information given from the Analysis & Design
6
Testing This is testing the program that has been created, and ensuring that all key components of the program work in the intended manner This section incudes: Test Plan Testing Evidence Action Takin is Necessary
7
Evaluation This is where the project is reviewed as a hole. This is a meeting between the customer and the people involved to discuss what would have been done differently, and discuss what could be done in later versions This section includes Evaluation of the customers needs What could be improved How will this be improved Maintenance
8
Different Models We are going to be looking at three different models, that incude all of the steps we have discussed The Three models are: Cyclical Waterfall Spiral
9
Cyclical SDLC Analysis Evaluation TestingImplementation Design
10
Pros and Cons of this Model PROS: Simple to understand Saves money because you only have to do It once CONS: The stages may have to be in a different order May need to do some stages multiple times - inefficient
11
Waterfall SDLC
12
Differences You can only move onto the next part of the Waterfall model, once there has been a review of the stage completed. Meaning the evaluation happens after every step
13
Pros and Cons of this model PROS: Saves money because you don’t need to do multiple stages more than once Catch Errors in all stages CONS: More time consuming as reviews are made after every stage
14
The Spiral SDLC
15
Differences You visit every section multiple time during this model, you will create a number of prototypes and then evaluate each of these
16
Pros and Cons of this model PROS: Very secure in terms of success CONS: Time consuming Expensive – As lots of stages
