The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also described as the Pacific Trash Vortex. The Patch is made up of really high concentrations of plastics, chemical sludge, and other debris that have been trapped by the currents of the North Pacific Gyre.

Despite its size and density, the patch is not visible from satellite photography. This patch is actually two of the largest garbage accumulations in the Pacific Ocean.

There are actually two distinct areas, also called the Western Pacific Garbage Patch and the Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch. Both of these areas in the Pacific Ocean are full of garbage, millions of tons of it, and a large amount of this garbage is plastic, which will not degrade.
