Now I know that moon phases are caused by… Create a model of the Earth, Moon, and Sun Each pair of students will choose a phase of the moon to represent with their model The teacher will model what each phase should look like with a globe and flashlight

An eclipse is when there is an object between the sun and another object Solar Eclipse: when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, blocking sunlight from the Earth. The moon’s shadow hits the Earth.

Lunar Eclipse: when the Earth is directly between the moon and the sun during a full moon. The Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon.

Use your model of the sun, moon, and Earth to display their positions during a Solar and Lunar eclipse. When you have showed the teacher your display, work on the Assess Your Understand questions on page 27.
