SUPERBOWL MONDAY! Objective: SWBAT remaster objectives from the Unit 2 test Catalyst: What moves during diffusion? What happens to cells in a hypertonic solution? What happens during active transport?
2
Agenda Catalyst REMASTERY REMASTERY CHANCE EXIT QUESTION
3
Diffusion Diffusion is when solute moves from high to low concentration
4
Diffusion Only if the membrane is permeable to the solute! Otherwise… OSMOSIS!
5
Osmosis Osmosis is when water moves from high water concentration to low water concentration How do you calculate water concentration?? Solute plus water=100%!
6
Hypertonic, Hypotonic, Isotonic Hypertonic= more water inside! Hypotonic= less water inside! Isotonic= same water inside and out!
7
Hyper, Hypo, Iso? 72% Sugar Solution 34% Sugar Solution
8
55% solute 85% solute
9
Hypertonic Solution Outside Cell Inside Cell 70% water 50% water
10
Hypotonic Solution Outside Cell Inside Cell 22% water 40% water
11
Isotonic Solution Inside Cell Outside Cell 90% water
12
What happens in each situation? Water moves from high to low
13
Hypertonic Solution Water Inside Cell Outside Cell 60% water
14
Water Hypotonic Solution Outside Cell Inside Cell 22% water 40% water
15
What happens in each situation? Hypertonic- corn syrup- cell gets smaller Hypotonic- distilled water- cell gets bigger (bursts) Isotonic- cell stays the same size
16
Active Transport Instead of moving towards equilibrium, cell moves away from equilibrium… TAKES ENERGY! (ATP)
17
Why is this active transport?
18
If solutes are moving from L R
20
Got it? Remastery Quiz time! Then… HUMAN BODY VIDEO!!!
21
Exit Question When we have a guest speaker, what norms do you think we should follow?
