2 I. Impact of the French/Indian War (1754-1763) Position of England in 1763 – War brought the colonists into contact with British regulars. Significance – Proclamation of 1763 – Colonists were angered by British interference. England was left with a significant debt.

4 II. England’s Attempts to Generate Revenue King George III and Prime Minister Grenville felt the time had come to pay off debt. Sugar Act (1764) – Currency Act – Early resistance -

5 III. The Stamp Act Crisis Broad based tax on legal documents and licenses. Significance – Sons of Liberty formed to protest the tax. Repealed before any money was collected. Declaratory Act (1766) -
