3 What is a Myth??? 1. a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.heronature 2. stories or matter of this kind: realm of myth. 3. any invented story, idea, or concept: His account of the event is pure myth. 4. an imaginary or fictitious thing or person. 5. an unproved or false collective belief that is used to justify a social institution.

5 Just like in Mesopotamia religion was meant to explain things in life that didn’t seem to have an explanation. Think Pair Share Think about the story of Athena’s birth (re-read if you have to). What might that story explain??

6 Pop Quiz--- Again thinking about the story of Athena… why do you think the scientific name for a spider is Arachnid??????

7 Influence on Christianity After reading the handout create a Venn Diagram for the similarities and differences of Greek Mythology and Christianity. As well as summarize them in a paragraph.

8 Do Now Summarize one similarity between Greek Mythology and Christianity.

11 When you have all of those items… You are ready to assess!!!!!!!! YAY!! Your assessment for these standards is to write a paragraph answering these questions: For R- How did Greek Mythology influence Christianity? For E- How did the geography of Greece influence the economy of the ancient Greeks.
