2 Civics/Curriculum The Civics class curriculum is specifically designed to give a student the basic information needed to be a citizen of the United States of America. The State of Florida’s Department of Education has determined that should include, historical awareness of the United States (To include analysis of key historical documents like the constitution), the organizational structure of the federal, state and local governments, personal and free market economic concepts, the rights and responsibility of citizenship and an understanding of the legal system. There is also emphasis on US Geography In addition to this there will also be a career planning component of the class. This will focus on exposing the students to career options they might not have thought of, as well as helping them to understand what they need to do in order to pursue opportunities for the future that they are already interested in. This will be handled by the counseling department.

3 World History Curriculum The purpose of the World History course is to develop greater understanding of the evolution of global processes and contacts, in interaction with different types of human societies. This understanding is advanced through a combination of selective factual knowledge and appropriate analytical skills. World History highlights the nature of changes in international frameworks and their causes and consequences, as well as comparisons among major societies. World History emphasizes relevant factual knowledge used in conjunction with leading interpretive issues and types of historical evidence. The course builds on an understanding of cultural, institutional and technological precedents that, along with geography, set the human stage. Periodization, explicitly discussed, forms an organizing principle for dealing with change and continuity throughout the course, along with consistent attention to contacts among societies that form the core of world history as a field of study.
