1 StudentViewPoint 1.4 Training Workshop
2
2 What is StudentViewPoint (SVP) SVP is a generic software tool customised to IC specifications. It can be used for basic surveys, where anyone is invited or for specialised surveys where we invite only certain groups.
3
3 What is SOLE SOLE stands for Student On-Line Evaluation Students are surveyed on their modules and lecturers taking those modules We run three SOLE surveys a year Autumn Spring Summer (some departments)
4
4 Objectives of Training 1.Student view of surveys 2.Quick overview of the StudentViewPoint system 3.Setting up the Course Module Relationships 4.Amending Course Module Relationships 5.Reports
5
5 Function Permissions – What You Can Do Log in using your windows username and password.
6
6 Data 1.Staff – Imported from HR 2.Students – Imported from Registry 3.Courses (Degrees) – Contact CTSU 4.Modules – Editable by departments 5.All other data is controlled centrally by CTSU.
7
7 Key Concepts – Relationship For a survey to take place we need to have certain relationships set. 1.A student is placed on a course by the student import from Registry (don’t worry about this) 2.Departments then setup relationships for modules and staff on courses. This is called a Course Module Staff relationship. (this is the key bit) 3.A lecturer or lecturers teach on a module, which is part of a course or multiple courses. This is taught within a period or periods (e.g. autumn, spring).
8
8 Key Concepts – Activity Activity is a flag, which means that you can turn any resource (staff, modules, CMS relationships) on or off. If a CMS relationship is active and the staff member is active for a given period. This will be surveyed in that period.
9
9 Course Module Staff Report This report is obtained from the Courses section and shows all the CMS relationships set for a department. Black text means active (surveyed) Grey text means inactive (not surveyed)
10
10 CMS Report A104 will not be surveyed in the Autumn for year 1 students on H400. Year 3, H400 students will only survey Prof. Morrison in module A301. All other relationships will be surveyed in Autumn by those student on Course H400

11 Service Teaching 1.Humanities - Departments should not create their own versions of Humanities modules. If you have departmental versions of Humanities modules linked to your courses, please remove them. 2.Business School - Departments should not create their own versions of Business School modules (including modules which are core to a specific course). The Business School will manage these modules, and survey data for these modules will be provided to those departments that require it. If you have departmental versions of Business School modules which are linked to your courses, please remove them. 3.Mathematics - Departments who have modules taught by a member of staff from the Mathematics department should create their own mathematics modules and link the appropriate Mathematics staff member. 4.Other - If a staff member from another department teaches on one of your modules, you should create the link between the course, module and member of staff. You may require data permission to additional departments to be able to do this - if so, please contact Rick Getting. Similarly, if you operate joint courses between departments, you may require additional departmental permissions.
