2 Our first long composition will be persuasive… what does persuade mean? To persuade is to convince someone that your opinion is the best one To persuade is to convince someone that your opinion is the best one Where do we see persuasion? Where do we see persuasion? 3 What’s the topic? 4 The school committee has decided that every student at PCIS must wear a uniform. Girls will wear knee-length plaid skirts, tights, wool sweaters, and flat dress shoes. Boys will wear khaki pants with a belt, button up shirts, ties and dress shoes.

5 This is what your uniforms would be like…

6 Agree or Disagree? As a class, make a list of pros and cons for the new uniform policy

7 Who’s the boss? Now that we have a list of pro’s and con’s, we need to consider our audience. Now that we have a list of pro’s and con’s, we need to consider our audience. Who are we trying to persuade? Who are we trying to persuade? Example: Dr. Sarke, School Board, PTO, Superintendent

8 Why is your audience so important? Consider how you talk to parents, friends, teachers, brothers/sisters- how does your tone change for each? If you want to persuade your audience, you need to use the right tone in your essay and the best reasons that would convince THEM to follow YOUR opinion.
