Cloud Formation Clouds form as warm air rises and cools to its dew point Condensation nuclei (small particles of dust, salt in air) must be present for clouds to form

3 ways clouds form 1. Warm air rising by convection 2. Warm air forced over a mountain (Orographic lifting) 3. When warm and cold air collide in atmosphere

Types of Clouds 1. Cirrus- high clouds, thin and whispy, can indicate storm is on the way 2. Cumulus- thick, puffy fair weather clouds 3. Stratus- low dark blanket of clouds, light drizzle Cumulonimbus- large, vertically rising storm clouds
