4
texture Texture can be described in terms of –TACTILE- touch Texture that can be felt by touch. (rough, prickly) –VISUAL- can see Texture that can be seen. (shiny, dull, matte)
5
Texture Why is texture important in fashion? –It can increase or decrease the appearance of body size. –It can draw added attention to a design.
6
Texture activity Write each of the terms on the next slide on a sheet of paper. Next to each word write whether you think it would increase or decrease the apparent size of the wearer. If you think it could do both write an explanation.
7
How Texture affects size? Shiny, Clingy, Thick, Bulky, Dull, Stiff, Firm, Soft, Bubbly, Thin, Glossy, Fuzzy, Wrinkled, Lightweight, Heavy, Smooth, Hard, Rough, Quilted, Flat, Sparkly, Bumpy
8
Two Types of Texture Structural- the texture is created when the garment or fabric is made. Visual Texture- printed or added to the fabric or garment. How Texture Made?
9
Structural Texture 1 Bulky, shaggy, fuzzy, stiff fabrics will make a persons shape look bigger. However they can also hide the figure. They can be overpowering for a petite figure.* The primary advantage of bulky fabrics is warmth.
11
Structural Texture 2 Smooth, flat, matte textures make the figure look smaller. They are good for most figure types.
12
Smooth Textures
13
Structural Texture 3 Shiny, glossy, sparkly textures make the body look larger because they reflect the light which makes them appear lighter.
14
Glossy/ Shiny Texture
15
Added visual texture Added visual texture is “printed-on” surface design. A print is the overall design created by repeating a “Motif.” Added visual texture can affect the apparent size of the person just like structural texture. Stripes, dots, floral, small, medium, large, etc.

Printed Texture
