4. Competitions States – General Info A.K.A.: NC-CDC ◦ North Carolina Career Development Conference Greensboro, NC ◦ Sheraton Hotel ◦ March 10-12, 2016  Thursday-Saturday Approximate Cost ◦ $175 plus meals  Includes: Travel, hotel, registration, & chaperone costs

Competitions States - Events Individual Role-play Events ◦ 17 individual role-play events (10 Minutes to prep)  TWO role-plays plus test (Max score 300 points) Team Role Play Events ◦ 7 team role-play events (30 minutes to prep)  ONE team role-play plus test average (Max 300 points) Principles Events ◦ 4 principles role-play events  ONE role-play (x2) plus test (Max score 300 points) Written Events ◦ discussed later

8. Competitions States - Testing 100 multiple choice questions - Online Taken February 22 OR February 23 Room: Media Center ALL students attending MUST test ◦ Students with exceptions should know Passes are available in Room MA-2

9. Competitions States - Testing When to Test (in this order) 1.Take during your marketing class 2.Take during another CTE class 3.Take during a class you can “afford” to miss 4.Make arrangements to take after school

11. Competitions States – Role-plays What does a role-play look like? A role play is an activity where participants are immersed in a character with specific traits, goals, and capabilities. A role play in the DECA dictionary is an activity where DECA members convey and exchange ideas and plans concerning their business role to judges who will be interacting with the members on behalf of his/her own role.

Competitions States (Individual and Principles Role-plays) Prep (Room 1) ◦ 10 minutes to  Read  Make notes  Make some sort of visual (ie chart, table, graph, brochure, coupon, etc)  Completely up to the student and the situation. Role-play (Room2) ◦ 10 minutes MAX to present ◦ NO ONE WATCHES YOU. It is only you and your judge

Agenda Key Points Arrive at Myers Park Thursday 8:30 am ◦ Do NOT park car here ◦ Students should be in business attire  If students get here before 1st period they should report to class  Students may store clothes in my room/art gallery ◦ Bag search at 9:00  Anyone that is late will be searched ◦ 9:30-Depart for Greensboro ◦ Return to Myers Park on Saturday between 3:00- 4:00PM  Students will call when we get to Concord Mills

Agenda Tornado Thursday Arrive in Greensboro around 11:30 Get room keys (if available), name badges, and wristbands Students competition in Team Events and PMK will compete this day Everyone else should test ◦ Extra way to make it on the big stage. Does not go towards their competition ◦ #2 pencil needed Open session that evening Pizza/Meeting Dance/Competition Practice Advisors will meet with students Bedtime

Expectations All CMS Rules Apply Curfew is Midnight (Not 12:01) ◦ 12:01 gets a phone call home Hotel and Mall are the ONLY approved locations Missing competition is a big no-no No student is allowed to be in the room of another school Coed rooms: door must be WIDE open Respect your chaperone Major violations = parent picking student up immediately

What to send Money ◦ We are next to a mall with a food court ◦ 7-8 Meals x $7-$10 = $70 ◦ Additional Money Food ◦ Kids EAT ◦ Pack food for the room  Easy to carry  No fridge in rooms Practice materials ◦ I have sent study material via Edmodo Game consoles are great but at your own risk Sharpened # 2 Pencils and Pens

What to send Dress Clothes ◦ Students will need to be in business attire every day  It is okay to wear the same thing multiple times  You don’t need to dress differently for awards session at night as you did in your competition that day ◦ Please iron dress clothes Jeans ◦ Students must wear jeans and their conference t- shirt to the dance Casual clothes ◦ CMS Dress Codes Apply

Competitions Dress An ideal outfit for a female DECA member consists of: White or pastel button down dress shirt Dress shoes (flats or heels) Dress pants or skirt (and a matching blazer is suggested) Stockings (optional) a shade lighter or darker than skin tone Light or no make up Scarves and light jewelry to accent your outfit

Will need answer by MARCH 14

36. DECA Scholarships David Shannon Scholarship ◦ We raise money throughout the year in memory of former DECA Champ, David Shannon to help aid students attending ICDC financially ◦ Students qualifying for ICDC may apply

Last notes NEW DECA Membership criteria To join DECA in the 2016-2017 School year, students must meet ONE of the following criteria: 1.Be enrolled in a marketing class either 1 st or 2 nd semester of the 2016-2017 school year 2.Be a senior during the 2016-2017 school year 3.Some other exceptions may be made
