Why was it named what it is? Neptune was named after the Roman god of the sea, Poseidon.

Neptune is composed of a mixture of gases, molten rock, water, methane, helium and hydrogen.

Neptune has rings, a great dark red spot and a great dark spot, they also have hurricane like storms.

The gravity on Neptune is 1.19 times the gravity on Earth.

Neptune has only been visited once by Voyager 2 on 8-25- 89. Most of what we know about Neptune today comes from this exploration.
