Welcome to Mrs. Amaya’s Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies class and Mrs. Payne’s Math and Science class!

In 5 th grade… We are preparing your child for Intermediate school. We feel it is very important to have…. –High expectations –Low tolerance for discipline issues This includes: Not following directions Not having materials and assignments

Expectations: Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Safe

Zero Tolerance Bullying will not be tolerated. This includes hitting, kicking, teasing, threatening, taunting, assaulting, or any other form of written, verbal, physical, or electronic harassment toward another student.

–Students must bring a note concerning all absences. Tardy warning bell is at 8:15. Students are expected to be seated in their classroom at 8:20. If a student is coming into the building at 8:20 or later, parent needs to come in and sign in the student.

If a student is absent, please call the attendance office before 9:30. A phone call does not excuse the absence. A written note from parent/guardian or a note from a physician/dentist is required for the absence to be excused

If a change in transportation is necessary, please send a note with your student to school. If something comes up unexpectedly, please call prior to 2:30 to make the change. You may be asked to fax a copy of parent/guardian’s driver’s license for verification.

–Prior to 2:30 –Please send a note with the student, and specify who will be picking up the student. – An ID is required when picking up a student. –Only person(s) who have signed the yellow AGR card can pick up students. –Emergency contacts may not pick up a child without notification from parent/guardian who signed AGR card.

Watch the short shorts. No skinny straps for girls’ tops. No jeans with tears or holes. No beards or mustaches for the boys. No hats or head coverings.

PLEASE CHECK WEEKLY!!! You can get to our web pages by going to Kleinisd.net – Campuses – Kuehnle – Teachers - 5 th – Kelsey Amaya and/or Spring Payne. There will be academic information, grading guidelines, upcoming events, etc.

Available to parents online. Go to Kleinisd.net. Click on Parent Access. Then, go to Parent Connection. You must set up an account the first time. Then, you simply have to log on to access your child’s grades. The system updates as we enter grades.

For math we have 6 objectives to cover and new TEKS. They are…….. -Obj.1 Number, Operation and Quantitative Reasoning –Obj. 2 Patterns, Relationships and Algebraic Thinking –Obj. 3 Geometry Spatial Reasoning –Obj. 4 Measurement –Obj. 5 Probability and Statistics –Problem Solving and Financial Literacy are embedded

Semester Awards: Math Growth Award – increase by 5 points from 1 st nine weeks average to 2 nd nine weeks average. End of the year awards: Top three students in each class will receive an award.

Reader’s Notebook: Student response to text on tracking sheet, vocab practice, and practice good reading strategies (connecting, questioning, visualizing, etc.) Writer’s Notebook: Free writing – Students write 3 – 5 times a week Grammar notes – Notes on parts of speech, subject/predicate, etc.

Spelling Spiral –This is where students will complete their spelling homework during the week. –There will be different tasks for them to do with the words so that way they are able to know each word by Friday.

Review papers. Keep all papers for your records! Sign and return Tuesday folder by Wednesday. If there are no academic, work habits, or conduct concerns, there will be a happy face in the column for the week in the middle of the page. A check in any area indicates concerns. Check Parent Connection for grades!
