2 nd Conjugation “-ERE VERBS “Legg ere” – Io leggoNoi leggiamo – Tu leggiVoi leggete – Lei/lei/lui leggeLoro/loro leggono

Differences from –are and –ere verbs. – Unlike –are verbs, -ere verbs require no spelling changes when the stem ends in –c or –g. – As a result, the conjugation may include both the soft and hard sounds of these letters.

Prendere – Used for idiomatic expressions when you say: Prendo una decisione a luglio. I’ll make a decision in July. – It can also mean to have when referring to food or drink. Laura prende un caffè. Laura is having a coffee.

Chiedere “to ask for things” – Chiedi una penna a Randy? – Are you going to ask Randy for a pen? – Lui chiede che tempo fa? – He’s asking how the weather is?

Piacere “to express likes and dislikes” – It is mostly used for 3 rd person singular or plural. – Agrees with the object rather than the subject. – Mi piace la pizza. (I like the pizza.) – Mi piacciono le pizze. (I like the pizzas.)

Piacere (Continuato) – Use a + (name/noun) instead of pronoun (mi, ti, le, gli ci, vi) to specify to whom you are referring. – Be sure to use the definite article with nouns in the structure. – A Stefano non piacciono gli esami. – Stefano does not like the exams.

Provalo! p. 65 – 1. Aldo e Franco (leggere) il libro.
