Why I chose it I chose this intersession to learn about how catapults and rockets, trebucets and slingshots were made. In the following slides I am going to tell you about the history and why I enjoyed making them and our trip to the Air Force Base.
4
History of rockets It first started in the 17th century when learning about traveling to space by Isaac Newton. With Newtons laws they explained how rockets work in space.
5
Rockets Building the rockets was my favorite activity because you had to change the design so it would fly straight and then you got to see how it would fly when you would launch it.
6
History of catapults Catapults were the first type of field artillery and was first used by the Greeks.Catapults were used as “seige” machines.
7
Catapults I enjoyed making the catapult because we had to make the design right so it would fly far enough. One thing that we couldn’t get to work first was that it wouldn’t shoot the projectile far enough but after changing it a couple of times and it shot the projectile far and was so strong it broke the center beam!
8
Trebuchets –It is believed that trebuchets started in China around 300 B.C. But the trebuchets can be traced back to Western Europe during the crusades of the 12th century
9
Trebuchets I enjoyed making trebuchets because you had to see how far the projectile would go and whose trebuchet would go the farthest.
10
History of the slingshot The first slingshots were used for hunting and for defense. The first use of a slingshot was used in biblical times in the story of David and Goliath.
11
Water balloon Sling shots I enjoyed firing the slingshots because you got to see how far it would go at different angles and heights.
12
Air Force Base At Wright Patterson Air Force Base my group and I had to find events or people that help change flying or help change the outcome of a war. I enjoyed going to the Air Force Base because I got to learn about interesting events and people that changed how we fly today.
13
What I enjoyed the most I enjoyed making the Catapults, rockets and Trebuchets. I enjoyed making these over building bridges because the other activities were hands on instead of paper and glue projects.
14
What I learned What I learned from this intersession is how to build rockets, catapults, trebuchets and how a bridge would be made. I also learned how to work together to get the job done.
